Iran Press/Middle East: Turkey’s interior minister Suleyman Soylu said that 195 other suspected Daesh members had also been re-taken.
According to the Iran Press, Soylu also reiterated that Turkey has so far received a total of 236 Daesh terrorists and our campaign against terrorist groups will continue.
“In line with our laws, the children will be referred to related institutions to ensure their protection,” he said. He went on to say that Turkey neutralized over 3,000 Daesh terrorists during the country’s Euphrates Shield Operation in northern Syria, and Ankara did its utmost best against the terror group.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused Syrian Kurdish forces of releasing some 750 Daesh members and families, amid Turkey’s offensive.
Private IHA news agency said the Turkish nationals among the re-captured were brought over to Turkey, where Erdogan said they would be imprisoned and tried.
Turkey launched “Operation Peace Spring” on Wednesday, October 9, claiming to end the presence of terrorists near its borders in northern Syria. Some reports suggest that the Turkish attack on northern Syria has provided conditions for ISIS militants held in camps in the region to escape and revitalize themselves. Currently, about 11,000 ISIS prisoners are held in Syria and European officials fear that ISIS prisoners with European nationality, who have fled camps, will come back to their countries.
At least 750 people with suspected links to Islamic State have reportedly fled a displacement camp in north-east Syria, local officials have said, raising fears that the Turkish offensive against Kurdish forces in the area could lead Isis to regain strength amid the chaos.
But the Turkish government used video footage of an empty prison in the Syrian border town of Tal Abyad to claim that the SDF deliberately released the detainees before fleeing the Turkish assault.
