Iran Press/ Iran news: Shina Ansari told Iran Press on Wednesday about her recent trip to Baku to participate in 2024 COP29, that Japan was supposed to donate cash aid, under the UNDP for the revival of the Urmia Lake, part of which would be spent for training projects about the issue.
The 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) took place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11 to 22 November 2024, with a focus on finance required for countries to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect lives and livelihoods from the worsening impacts of climate change.
Lake Urmia is the most important tourist attraction of West Azerbaijan province. In addition to preserving the environment and protecting the ecosystem of the northwestern area of Iran, the restoration of the lake also helps develop tourism in this part of the country.
As with a question about the level of the Caspian Sea, also she told reporters that the issue would be addressed in the next COP meeting to be held in Iran.
The average level of the Caspian Sea in 2023 has decreased by about 30 cm compared to the previous year and has reached 28.99 meters below sea level.
According to the Caspian Sea Meteorological and Hydrological Coordination Committee, the decrease is attributed to the low influx of water coming to the sea from Volga Rivier in Russia, which passes 3,500 km from the center and south of the country.
