Tehran (IP) - Iran's Government Spokesman Ali Rabiei in his weekly presser stated that due to a decline in oil revenue, the country now runs on non-oil export revenues and taxes.

Iran PressIran news: Answering Iran Press correspondent's question, The Iranian Government spokesperson Ali Rabiei in his presser said: "Government revenues have been reduced by the decline in oil exports, and today the country is governed by non-oil exports' revenues and taxes, and this has been one of the effective measures of the government that did not allow infrastructure to stay idle despite falling revenues."

"Therefore, the most important source of support for the poor was to stop paying a subsidy to high-income people and providing them to the poor," Rabiei added.

"According to the latest estimates," the spokesman said, "the rich in Iran receive the most subsidies, and this situation should change."

He stated that revenue from the fuel price hike is allocated to low-income people in the country.

The government's recent decision has made some protests by the people who had real demands but few among the people damaged the public properties.

"In some cities, we have reports of repeatedly use of guns and cold weapons and attacking military and security forces. We differentiate between real protesters and looters and also saboteurs, and these are terrorist acts", government spokesman highlighted.

"We regard the protest as the right of the people, but the protesters are different from the saboteurs who want to create an atmosphere where the true voice of the real protesters is not heard".

The high ranking official stated: "Today the situation was almost normal and tomorrow and the day after tomorrow we will have no problems in the field of security, and then we will have the time to hear the voice of the people because real voices will not be heard in the unrest".

In the meantime, Rabiei added: "The US government and officials, who have oppressed the Iranian people with extreme sanctions and maximum pressure, are sending a message of support for the protests. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has backed the upheavals by pushing for maximum sanctions against Iran".

Rabiei said finally: "Ultimately our country needs reform in economic structures, whether with sanctions or without sanctions."
