The Joint Chiefs of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces traveled to Damascus on Sunday to attend trilateral talks with his Syrian and Iraqi counterparts on ways of boosting military ties and strengthen cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

Iran Press/Iran news: Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri traveled to Damascus on Sunday to attend trilateral talks with his Syrian and Iraqi counterparts.

Heading a high-ranking military delegation, Major General Bagheri left Tehran for Damascus to participate in the trilateral meeting with the chiefs of staff of the Iraqi and Syrian armed forces about ways to combat terrorism, Tasnim news agency reported.

Promoting defense and military cooperation, consulting about the fight against terrorism, and establishing coordination and cooperation among Iran, Iraq, and Syria, as well as examining the latest strategies to stabilize and secure the region are among other objectives behind the top Iranian general’s visit.

In recent years, the Middle East region has been plagued by Takfiri terrorist groups like Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), which are believed to have been created and supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.

The terrorist groups, which claim to be Islamic but whose actions are anything but, have been committing heinous crimes not only against non-Muslims, but mostly against Muslims in the region.

Iraq and Syria have been gripped by insurgency with various terrorist groups, including Daesh, fighting their central governments.

In the meantime, Iran has remained a close ally of the countries and supports their legitimate governments in the face of foreign-backed militancy. 103/211
