US cannot break Iran-Iraq ties

Iranian Foreign Minister said that the US cannot break Iran-Iraq ties which routed in history.

Iran Press/Iran news: "The United States cannot in fact break relations between Iran and Iraq. The two countries are jointed together by history and geography", Mohammad Javad Zarif added on Monday in an exclusive interview with BBC Arabic in Baghdad.

"Even eight years of a war which was imposed on both sides by Saddam's regime was not able to break the historical and geographical and even family ties between Iranian and Iraqi people," Iranian Foreign Minister noted, Iran Press reported.

"It is the United States that is pushing Iraqis into choosing, but we never ask them to choose. We want to have good relations with Iraq, the country is our neighbor," Zarif concluded.

In a conference held in Tehran on March 9 to commemorate the senior Iraqi Shia cleric Ayatollah Mohammad Baqir al-Hakim, Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Iran and Iraq are the pillars of regional security and without these two important countries, the region would not be secure.105/201/213
