Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif voiced concern over tensions between India and Pakistan, saying that Iran is trying to peacefully settle the differences between the two sides.

Iran Press/Asia: In an interview with ICANA news agency on Tuesday, Zarif said: “I have talked with Pakistani foreign minister and we are also in touch with Indian officials to do what is possible. Continuation of tensions is not to the benefit of the region.”

Tensions between the two neighboring countries rose when Indian fighter jets attacked what New Delhi claimed was a militant camp in Pakistan in retaliation for a deadly assault that killed at least 40 Indian troops in Indian-administered Kashmir on 14 February.

Zarif also said the Iranian foreign ministry is following up on the issue of border security with Pakistan, noting: “Pakistanis have said they would do everything possible to prevent the occurrence of past issues.”
