The Head of the IRIB World Service congratulated the release of Press TV anchor Marzieh Hashemi from US jail and said that the United States under the pressure of public was forced to release Mrs. Hashemi.

Iran pressIran newsPeyman Jebelli on Thursday morning added the issue of Mrs. Hashemi proved that there is a severe need for the waking and awareness of the public in the US until the US government has been forced to release the detainees.

According to Iran press, he also said that the release of Mrs. Hashemi is a great achievement for independent media, including the two Iranian networks 'Press TV' and 'Al-Alam'.

Also on Jan 23, 2019, Jebelli compared detention of a US-born Iranian television anchor in the United States to Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi's murder scenario.

Speaking on the sideline of protest held outside UN office in Tehran over US detention of Press TV anchor on Wednesday, IRIB's top official went on to emphasize that there have not been any charges filed up against Hashemi in the last 10 days by the legal bodies.

 

Following the media wave against Marzieh Hashemi's detention, the United States released her after 10 days.

Hashemi, a 59-year-old American-born Muslim convert who has lived in Iran for years, was detained at St. Louis Lambert International Airport in Missouri on January 13th while in the US to visit her ill brother and other family members.105/210
