"The abnormal detention of Press TV anchor, Marzieh Hashemi, by the Americans was a violation of human rights, freedom of expression right and contrary to civil rights and access to free flow of information right", said a Senior Iranian MP.

Iran Press/Iran news: Member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Seyyed Hossein Naghavi Hosseini added: "Assaulting to Marzie Hashemi's privacy and interfering in her clothing and appearance as well as the food provided to her as a Muslim woman was disgusting indeed".

In an exclusive interview with Iran Press, Naghavi Hosseini also called for international media and NGOs fair stance and positioning against Hashemi's detention, elaborating that there should not be any difference between the detention of Jamal Khashoggi and that of Marzieh Hashemi's, both of them being journalist.

Naghavi Hosseini also asked both the media and diplomatic organizations to pursue this issue seriously until releasing Hashemi and taking back what rightfully belongs to this Muslim journalist so that the US inconsistent policies in the human rights issue becomes apparent to the international community more than before.

Hashemi, a 59-year-old American-born Muslim convert who has been living in Iran for years, was detained at St. Louis Lambert International Airport in Missouri 13 Jan 2019 while she was in the US to visit her ill brother and other family members.

She was transferred to a detention facility of FBI in Washington DC, where she was forced to remove her hijab and only offered food not permissible under her Islamic values.

After days of silence, the US government confirmed on January 18 that it was holding Hashemi in jail as a 'material witness' and that she would be released after she testified before a grand jury.

Hashemi's illegal detention has led to reactions from outstanding political figures and bodies all around the world. 208/103
