"No surprise to see enemies seeking to ruin Iran-EU ties", the Spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry Bahram Ghassemi said on Saturday.

Commenting on the claims laid by some German media about the arrest of an Afghan-German national for spying for the Iranian government, he rejected any link between the alleged individual and the Islamic Republic of Iran, saying that such accusations are made by those trying to harm Iran-EU relations at the sensitive juncture, according to an Iran Press report.

“We have said on several occasions long-standing ties between Iran and most of the European states, especially, members of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), have enemies who will spare no effort to restrain such relations," he added.

German newspaper 'Handelsblatt' has recently claimed that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has exposed an Iranian spy in the German army.

The foreign ministry spokesman also commented on Iran-EU relations on October 31, when he said: "Whenever relations between Iran and the European Union begin to expand, invisible hands taking their cue from certain countries go to work, trying to harm these relations."

After withdrawing from the JCPOA, the US has consistently tried to persuade other parties, particularly the European, to withdraw from the agreement in various ways, including raising different allegations against Iran.

The special purpose vehicle (SPV) is part of the EU’s efforts to encourage Iran to remain in the nuclear deal following the unilateral withdrawal of the US back on May 05, by offering an alternative payment channel to keep trade flowing with Iran in defiance of US sanctions however the US tries to obstruct. 208/103
