Iran unaware when Europe launches financial channel: Ghasemi

The Spokesman of Iranian Foreign Ministry Bahram Ghasemi said that Europe has not yet informed when it is going to launch new mechanism to facilitate payments for Iranian exports.

Iran Press/Iran news: Spokesman of Iranian Foreign Ministry Bahram Ghassemi said on Tuesday that Europe has not yet informed when it is going to launch the promised financial mechanism known as the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in order to help Iran continue business under US pressures.

“The Europeans have yet to finalize the financial mechanism,” Spokesman of Iranian Foreign Ministry said in reaction to rumors that the European Union is going to launch the promised financial mechanism known as the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) by the end of January, Mehr News Agency reported.

Ghasemi said that while the European side has repeatedly expressed its political willingness to implement the SPV, it has delayed implementing it many times so far, which is unjustifiable and unacceptable to Iran.

Spokesman of Iranian Foreign Ministry further added: “based on their statements so far, they have obtained the desired results by now.”

The special payment channel needs a host country to come into effect. According to a report by the Wall Street Journal on Nov. 26, France and Germany – as key EU countries and signatories to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) – are the likely candidates to host the SPV. 101/201
