Syria (IP) - After several years of absence from the Arab League, a Syrian delegation took part on Sunday in the preliminary summit of the Arab League leaders.

Iran PressEurope: Following the start of the crisis in Syria in 2011, the country's membership in the Arab League was suspended due to the pressures exerted by UAE and Saudi Arabia; the Arab countries closed their embassies in Damascus and cut off their diplomatic ties with Syria.

Two weeks ago in Cairo, Egypt, the Arab League's foreign ministers agreed with the return of Syria to the Arab League.

Earlier, the Saudi king invited the Syrian president to participate in the Arab League meeting, which is scheduled to be held on May 19 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The Syrian sources said the preliminary meetings of the Arab League's social and economic councils have kicked off in Jeddah with the Syrian Assistant Minister of Economy Rania Ahmed participating in it.

The Minister of Economy himself Mohammad Samer al-Khalil is scheduled to take part in the meetings on Munday.

It is expected that the Arab countries heads and kings will enter Saudi Arabia on Thursday to participate in the meeting of the Arab League.
