Nigerian authorities announced on Thursday night that a number of people were killed in an armed attack in the southeast of the country.

The police chief of Inujo province in the southeast of Nigeria said: "armed men attacked members of three political parties, during which several people were killed."

Without referring to the exact number of people killed in this attack, Nigerian official said that one of the dead was a candidate for a seat in the Nigerian House of Commons.

This attack occurs while five policemen were killed last Tuesday in two attacks by separatists in Anambra state in the southeast of Nigeria.

The attacks come at the same time that Nigerian voters are preparing to elect a successor to current President Muhammadu Buhari, who has held the position for two consecutive terms.

The lack of security in some areas of Nigeria has caused voters to worry on the eve of 2023 national elections on the February 25. 219
