US Special Envoy for Iran says his country is focused on continuing support to the ongoing riots in Iran and not on resuming talks on the revival of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Iran PressAmerica: The US intends to focus on alleged Iran’s weapons deliveries to Russia and on ongoing riots in the country and not on resuming talks on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on removing sanctions on Iran, US Special Envoy for Iran Robert Malley said in an interview with Bloomberg on Saturday.

The misinformation campaign against Iran has not stopped since the beginning of the riots in September. Riots broke out on September 16 after a young Iranian woman Mahsa Amini died.

The 22-year-old fainted at a police station in the capital, Tehran, and was later pronounced dead at a hospital. An official report by Iran’s Legal Medicine Organization said that Amini’s controversial death was caused by an illness rather than alleged blows to the head or other vital body organs.

Ever since, the rioters have been going on a rampage across the country, attacking security officers, resorting to vandalism against public property, and desecrating religious sanctities.

“Iran is not interested in a deal and we’re focused on other things. Right now we can make a difference in trying to deter and disrupt the provision of weapons to Russia and trying to support the fundamental aspirations of the Iranian people,” the agency quoted him as saying.

While the US doubts Tehran’s interest in renewing the nuclear deal, Malley said that interaction between the EU and Iran continues and negotiations have not been formally suspended, Russian state news agency TASS reported.
