Tehran (IP) - Iran's foreign minister says the accusation that Iran has sent weapons to Russia is made with the aim of legitimizing Western arms aid to Ukraine.

Iran PressIran News: In a phone conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian discussed the war in Ukraine, saying: "We believe that this war originated from the wrong policies of NATO's expansion to the east, and we consider the accusation of sending weapons from Iran to Russia to be used in the Ukraine war as baseless."

"The accusation (Iran has sent weapons to Russia) is made with the aim of legitimizing Western arms aid to Ukraine," he added.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, emphasizing Tehran's continuous efforts to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine, called for sustainable peace in Europe.

Referring to the unrest in Iran, the top diplomat said: "The US and several western countries encourage unrest and riot in Iran by using false information and purposefully abusing international mechanisms."

The diplomat declared diplomacy and dialogue as the best option while emphasizing that the Islamic Republic will never be passive against other options.

Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, also emphasized the continuation of regional dialogues and expressed hope that Tehran's efforts to stop the war in Ukraine will lead to a ceasefire and a solution to the problem.

Guterres also praised Iran's initiative to form a national committee to investigate the unrest inside Iran.

The Secretary General of the United Nations appreciated the role of the Islamic Republic in helping to solve the crisis in Yemen and asked Iran to continue its efforts in this field.
