France striker Karim Benzema has been ruled out of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after tearing a muscle in his left thigh.

Iran Press/Europe: The Ballon d'Or winner, 34, was forced to leave defending champions France's training session early after suffering the injury in training on Saturday.

"Karim Benzema is out of the World Cup," the French football federation (FFF) said.

"After hurting the quadriceps on his left thigh the Real Madrid striker is forced to give up on taking part in the World Cup."

The Qatar World Cup will be held from November 21 to December 18, 2022.
