Vienna (IP) - Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative at the United Nations office in Vienna reacted to the UN atomic watchdog's 35-nation Board of Governors' anti-Iran resolution and warned that the move can have an impact on Iran's cooperation with IAEA.

Iran PressEurope: Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative at the United Nations office in Vienna and the representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), emphasizing Iran's determination and stability in defending its interests and rights against the pressures and excesses of the West, said: "The approval of this anti-Iranian resolution can affect the process of Tehran's cooperation and constructive interactions with the agency. "

Mohsen Naziri-Asal said on Thursday: "The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency passed a resolution against the peaceful nuclear activities of Iran under strong political pressure from the United States, Britain, France and Germany."

The ambassador and permanent representative of Iran in the International Atomic Energy Agency added: "During the investigation of this issue, the supporters of the draft resolution presented fake information and baseless claims to justify their non-constructive approach to the Board of Governors and tried to turn this meeting into a tool to pursue their short-sighted political goals and beyond the framework of the agency's duties and powers."

Naziri further pointed out that these countries have not spared any effort in the past weeks to question Iran's continuous interaction with the IAEA and to cast doubt on the prospect of reaching an agreement regarding the lifting of oppressive sanctions against our country and the revival of the JCPOA, saying: "We strongly believe that this resolution will not have any results for its founders, especially in terms of restoring their tarnished image as the main violators of the JCPOA and laying the groundwork for justifying more unilateral sanctions against the Iranian nation."

He further stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the approval of the non-consensus resolution presented by three European countries and the United States in today's meeting of the Board of Governors as a political, unconstructive and incorrect action and considers it unacceptable and rejected.

The ambassador and permanent representative of Iran in the International Atomic Energy Agency added: "Considering the continuance of Iran's extensive cooperation with the IAEA, calling for Iran 's cooperation with the IAEA, using the Board of Governors as a tool and exerting pressure through the approval of a resolution, is unjustified and meaningless."

Naziri further pointed out that the Islamic Republic of Iran has cooperated and constructively interacted with the IAEA in good faith to resolve some ambiguities regarding the remaining safeguard issues, and added: "We expect that the IAEA is that with an independent, impartial approach and technical, without being influenced by the political goals of some countries, to try to resolve these safeguards ambiguities, which, according to the IAEA, do not have any non-proliferation concerns."

Some of these ambiguities are related to past issues between Iran and the Agency, which were closed forever by the Board of Governors in 2015, he said.

Emphasizing that currently, the peaceful nuclear program of Iran is one of the most transparent programs among the member countries of the IAEA, he stated: "The political goals of the founders of this anti-Iranian resolution will not be realized, but its approval can affect the process of cooperation and constructive interactions of the Islamic Republic of Iran with IAEA."

Emphasizing that the uninterrupted implementation of safeguards and extensive verification activities of the Agency in Iran during the last two decades was possible only in light of Iran's cooperation and goodwill, Naziri added: "The Islamic Republic of Iran, while adhering to the principle of faithfulness to implementation of its international obligations, will be determined and stable in defending its interests and rights confronting the pressures and excesses of the United States and Western countries."
