Tehran (IP)- The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman congratulated the people of Brazil on the victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the presidential elections.

His victory heralds a political about-face for Latin America's largest country after four years of Jair Bolsonaro's far-right administration.

Nasser Kanaani, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman, expressed hope that the long-standing relations with goodwill and mutual respect between Iran and Brazil will be further developed during the presidency of Inacio Lula da Silva.

Pointing out that Iran-Brazil relations will be 100 years old next year, Kanaani noted: "The two countries have had growing cooperation during the past years, especially in economic and trade ties, and considering the many capacities available in bilateral and multilateral relations, the Islamic Republic hopes that these relations will be strengthened and deepened in various dimensions during the presidency of Lula da Silva.
