In a statement on Monday, the Polish government asked its citizens to leave Belarus as soon as possible.

Iran PressEurope: Poland on Monday called on all its nationals to leave the neighboring country of Belarus, a close Russian ally that the Polish government says is under pressure to join the war in Ukraine.

The announcement came as Poland, a NATO member, is increasingly worried that its neighbor could arbitrarily detain Polish citizens as bargaining chips in the rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine’s backers in the west.

Polish citizens are advised to refrain from traveling to Belarus due to rising tensions, military events in the region, as well as repeated cases of arrests of Polish citizens.

In the event of a sharp deterioration in the security situation, border closures, or other unforeseen situations, evacuation may be significantly difficult or even impossible.

Relations between Warsaw and Minsk deteriorated in 2021 when Poland accused its eastern neighbor of orchestrating a migrant crisis on its border and have become even more strained since the Russian operation in Ukraine. 219
