Iran Press/ America: Amir Saeed Jalil Iravani said on Thursday: "While Syria has met the convention’s requirements and continues to cooperate with the OPCW constructively, handling this issue in a political and double-standard manner will only divert discussions from its technical nature and could undermine the Council’s credibility and authority."
Iravani stressed that the only way to guarantee chemical weapons are never used again is to destroy all of them on a global scale and to take all necessary measures to prevent their production.
As the main victim of chemical weapons in the world, the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the use of chemical weapons by anybody, anywhere, and under any circumstances, he pointed out.
The Iranian envoy expressed hope that the high-level meeting between Syria’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and the OPCW director general would take place as soon as possible.
The US, along with its allies, has always exploited the fake news about the Syrian government's use of chemical weapons to improvise pretexts for invading Syrian soil and looting its properties, including oil.
Just one week after their excusing the Syrian government of chemical attack on Douma in the eastern Ghouta, the US, France, and the UK fired more than 100 missiles at different parts of the country; an attack carried out as the eastern Ghouta was freed from the invasion of the terrorist groups.
Earlier on April 7, 2017, the US hit Al-Shayrat Airbase in Homs under the fabricated pretext of the Syrian government's chemical attack on Khan Shaykhun.
