The head of a UK-based charity, Chris Roles, has said that his country faces the challenges of an ageing population.

Iran Press/Iran: An executive member of a UK based charity devoted to helping older people in developing countries has said in an exclusive interview with Iran Press News Agency that UK is living with the challenges of an ageing population. Chris Roles made the remark on the sidelines of 'Ageing Population Conference' held in Tehran.

Iran Press: How does your charitable organization, Age International, help elderly people?

Chris Roles: Thank you for your welcome. My name is Chris Roles, I am from Age International (a charity) in the United Kingdom and we are part of the global help age network. My organization Age International works in the world particularly in low and middle income countries to help NGOs and civil society to respond to the challenges of aging. We are living with the challenges of aging in the UK, increasing numbers of older people living longer and living with more complex healthcare needs, and for me, the fundamental issue is the status of older people, their acceptance within society, and the fact that they should have an equal part to play in society, no difference because of their age and they should be able to access the healthcare they need, the medical care they need to live a  healthy life for as long as possible. Family is still very important in the UK but state plays very important role in helping to ensure older people stay healthy for longer and enjoy a greater well-being.
