Bushehr (IP) - chief of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) says that 10,000 megawatts of electricity production are on the agenda of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.

Iran PressIran news: Mohammad Eslami, in response to Iran Press, said: "We should have had several thousands of megawatts by today, so we must increase the share of the country's basket in the production of electricity and clean energy out of the nuclear power plants."

The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said that the highest amount of fresh water in the world is supplied from the Persian Gulf using desalination devices. Still, Iran's share is not enough and must be expanded.

The construction phase of Iran's first nuclear-power desalination plant will start in late August.

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) will construct the Bushehr desalination plant, which can desalinate 70,000 cubic meters of water daily.

Mohammad Eslami added: "We have predicted producing a total of 10,000 new megawatts in the southern coasts, and wherever we build a power plant, apart from using seawater for the process inside the power plant, we are planning to build a desalination complex next to it so that we can provide water and electricity for the areas determined."

Bushehr desalination plant is vital in solving the southern county's water shortage.

Bushehr nuclear power plant, the first and only nuclear power plant in Iran, can produce nearly 1 gigawatt per hour of electricity.

The AEOI plans to build two similar power generation units in Bushehr, aiming at producing and distributing electricity in the country.
