Zanjan (IP) - With the advent of the 8th night of Muharram, mourning rituals were observed at Zanjan Ground Hosseinyeh, northwestern Iran, to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS).

Iran PressIran news: The mourning congregation at Zanjan Ground Hosseinyeh has been nationally registered as Iran's intangible heritage.

Zanjan Ground Hosseinyeh is one of the Shia religious sites in Iran, where the greatest mourning congregation in Iran and the region to commemorate Imam Hussein's (AS) martyrdom is held every year in Muharram month, especially on Tasua and Ashura days.

Tasua and Ashura are respective the ninth and tenth day of Muharram month' the former is dedicated to Hazrat Abbass, Imam Hussain's (AS) brother. 

The Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam, and his companions were martyred in the battle of Karbala (in the year 61 AH (October 10, 680 CE in) Iraq to promote Justice and fight against oppression. The day is commonly known as Ashura.
