Iran Press/Asia: Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi said at a meeting with former US secretary of state Henry Kissinger in New York on Tuesday that the two world powers could compete “but should not use a Cold War mentality to view each other, and nor should they slip into the trap of a zero-sum game,” PressTV reported.
“Recently, certain US forces domestically have been continually blackening China’s name, creating antagonistic feeling, which has caused serious harm to the atmosphere of Sino-US ties,” Wang said, without referring to any individual by name.

Wang warned that if that behavior continued, it would harm relations, something he said is neither in the interest of Beijing and Washington nor in the interest of the international community.
Kissinger was secretary of state and national security adviser in past US administrations and is known for his diplomatic maneuvers during the height of the Cold War, most famously a détente with China. Now 95 years old and physically infirm, he has met and reportedly advised US President Donald Trump at the White House on a limited number of occasions.
Wang made the remarks at the same day that China strongly objected to yet another provocative move by the Trump administration to provide arms to self-ruled Taiwan, over which Beijing claims sovereignty.
China strongly objects to the United States for approving proposed arms sales worth up to 330 million dollars to Taiwan.
The State Department approved the proposed sale to Taiwan of spare parts for military aircraft worth up to 330 million dollars.

China was also angered this week by the imposition of new US tariffs on Chinese imports, refusing to continue trade talks with the US. It also suspended military talks with America over the imposition of sanctions on the Chinese military for buying Russian weapons.
