Tehran (IP) - The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran in a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba said that the expansion of relations with the Latin American region, especially independent countries like Cuba, that stand up to the arrogance of the global arrogant regime, is of great importance to Iran.

Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz has headed a high-level delegation to Tehran to meet with officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as to hold the 18th meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation. The visit of the senior Cuban official is aimed at improving the level of economic relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, described the Tehran-Havana relations as strategic and added, that the numerous and diverse capacities existing in the two countries should be used to develop cooperation in the fields of trade, economy, agriculture, health and medical care.

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran further stated that the positive and constructive bilateral relations between Iran and Cuba can be extended to the field of international interactions between the two countries.

Raisi also expressed satisfaction with the results of the meeting of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation between Iran and Cuba, adding: "Constructive cooperation between the two countries in the field of health and well-being has the potential to expand a lot, and Iran and Cuba can achieve self-sufficiency in various fields as improving the production of strategic products by relying on domestic power."

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, referring to the areas and capacities of Iran's cooperation with countries in the Latin American region, noted: "The synergy of these capacities leads to the economic growth of the two sides, and the principal policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran is the development of relations with independent countries that are resistant to the extravagances of the global arrogant system."

The Cuban Deputy Prime Minister also delivered a message to the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasizing his country's desire to develop economic and trade cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz describing the political, economic and trade relations between Tehran and Havana as strategic and profound, added: "Short-term, medium-term and long-term plans can enhance Iran-Cuba relations from the level of bilateral relations to multilateral interactions in the Latin American region."

Tehran-Havana relations have always been developing in recent decades, and especially Iran's membership in the Non-Aligned Movement has led to closer relations between the two countries. 

The two countries share similar views on countering the arrogant and hegemonic policies of the United States as the leader of the Western bloc and the two sides want to counter Washington's illegal interference in the internal affairs of other countries, as well as the imposition of unilateral sanctions.
