Dushanbe (IP) – The chief of the general staff of Iran's armed forces met with Tajikistan's president in Dushanbe, discussing the expansion of relations.

Iran PressAsia: Major-General Mohammad Bagheri went to Dushanbe as head of a high-level military delegation to promote and develop joint defense and military cooperation with Tajikistan.

On the second day of his trip, General Bagheri met with President Emomali Rahmon.

The Tajik president said the common historical roots and common language had provided unparalleled conditions for the further development of defense, military, cultural, political and economic relations between the two countries.

He stated that the Tajik Armed Forces welcomes any bilateral military-defense cooperation with the Iranian Armed Forces, such as the opening of a UAV factory, underlining that this cooperation should reach its highest level in all military fields.

General Bagheri, for his part, stated that strengthening, upgrading and developing the level of joint military interactions and relations between the two countries and increasing cooperation in various military fields are among the important priorities of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Iranian official emphasized establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan as a neighbor and friend and noted that the armed forces of Iran and Tajikistan could help Afghanistan establish security and peace through developing military and regional cooperation.
