A car crashed into a crowd of worshippers outside an Islamic centre, police said.

IranPress/Europe: At least two people were rushed to hospital after the hit-and-run in Edgware Road, north-west London.

According to Daily express, the crash took place at approximately 12.35am BST on Wednesday outside the Al-majlis Al-Hussaini Islamic centre. 

After crashing into the crowd, the motorist drove away. 

Police confirmed two people reporting non life-threatening injuries were taken to hospital for treatment. 

Confirming officers are investigating, a police spokesperson said: “Officers are currently retaining an open mind regarding the cause of the collision. 

They added: The hate crime aspect of the collision is being looked at by detectives as an aggravating factor." 

Dramatic snaps taken at the scene show paramedics assisting a young male laying on the ground.

While his current health state is unknown, he is seen in the pictures breathing using the help of an breathing operator.  

A spokesperson for the Hussaini Association, which had been holding a series of lectures at the mosque, said: "We are in deep shock at such an attack taking place on our community but remain proud to live in a diverse and tolerant society and as such we remain unintimidated and encourage all to continue to attend the Majlis (gathering) of Hussein - a man who defied a tyrant to deliver a message of love, unity and patience which we remember to this day."
