Iran's foreign ministry spokesman, Bahram Ghasemi has emphasized that the attack on Iran's consulate in the southern Iraqi city of Basra is not related in any way with the attack on the Iranian embassy in Paris. Ghasemi said these were two separate incidents and they are not related.

Iran Press/Iran: Iranian foreign ministry spokesman added: "The issue of Basra and the attack on our consulate were made by certain elements who tried to use a particular moment to influence the relations between the two nations and the internal developments in Iraq. The issue of Paris is another matter that was carried out by a terrorist group which failed to break in into embassy premises".

Speaking at his weekly press briefing on Monday, Bahram Ghasemi  said, he believed Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will attend the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly at the UN headquarters in New York as in previous years.

He also said, “I believed President Rouhani will attend the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly and hold separate talks with some of his counterparts on the sidelines of the event, as in previous years”.

Ghasemi added: “After completion of the necessary reviews and consultations, how and at what level Iran will attend a United Nations Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East will be announced.”

Ghasemi also commented on an attack on Iran's embassy in Greece: “I have no information about this issue right now and I'm not aware of the details of this incident”.

He expressed hope the foreign ministers of Iran and 4+1 Group could hold meetings on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. "I think we should be a little patient to be provided with new plans that could satisfy the Iranian side," he noted.

Pointing to the lengthy and complicated process of selecting ambassadors, Ghasemi said "once again, I emphasize that China and India are considered good partners of Iran," adding that ambassador to New Delhi has been appointed.
