Tehran (IP) - The former chairman of the Supreme National Reconciliation Council of Afghanistan expressed hope that conditions will be created for the return of Afghan citizens living in Iran to Afghanistan.

Iran PressAsia: Abdullah Abdullah, former chairman of the Afghan Supreme National Reconciliation Council, met with the Iranian Deputy Ambassador to Kabul Seyed Hassan Mortazavi on Friday to thank the Islamic Republic of Iran for its support of Afghan refugees living in Iran.

Abdullah Abdullah, stating that the Islamic Republic of Iran has hosted a large number of Afghan immigrants for many years, said: "Some seek to create tension between the two nations, and these behaviors are condemned."

The former chairman of the Supreme National Reconciliation Council of Afghanistan, listing some of Afghanistan's current problems, added: "It is not a time for outside parties to want to decide for the people of Afghanistan, and the fate of this country must be decided by the people."

The Islamic Republic of Iran has been hosting Afghan immigrants for more than forty years, and now at least 5 million of them live in Iran and enjoy the facilities available in the Islamic Republic of Iran as Iranian citizens.

Recent developments in Afghanistan have also led to a new wave of Afghan nationals enter to Iran, and the Islamic Republic of Iran, despite economic hardships imposed by harsh sanctions and without international assistance, has not prevented their entry and has been a worthy host for these migrants.
