Iran Press/ Asia: During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims refrain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk, converge in mosques for prayers, and traditionally break their fast in gatherings in mosques or with family and friends in the evening.
Providing the fasting people in Pakistan with Iftar on the street is one of the good traditions of the Muslims of this country during the holy month of Ramadan. Every year, during the holy month of Ramadan, street Iftar tables are set up across Pakistan to receive passers-by, the low-income people and the needy.
The number of these tables is so high that in some cities of Pakistan, Iftar is held on busy streets. This good tradition is known among Pakistanis as the "table of mercy" and most of these tables are set up spontaneously.
Mohammad Oweis, in charge of collecting public donations in Pakistan, told Iran Press that street Iftar tables are currently being set up in more than 11 Pakistani cities for the needy and the working class.
Atiq Afridi, a student and social activist in Pakistan, also said that street Iftar dinners operate regardless of color, race, or religion and that all services are free.
