Tehran (IP) - The first vice president of Iran, in separate orders, addressed Iran's foreign minister and his deputy for international affairs and called for the diligent pursuit of Iran's water right in Helmand river from the government based in Afghanistan.

Iran PressIran news: Mohammad Mokhber, following the report of his envoy to Sistan and Baluchestan province, emphasized: "The government based in Afghanistan, according to valid international agreements, must respect Iran's water rights, and is committed to its release for the benefit of the people of Sistan and Baluchestan province, and resolve this issue as soon as possible."

The first vice president also called on the Ministry of Energy to take the necessary measures to provide drinking water supply to the people of the region this summer.

He also stressed that the government is planning to provide access to sustainable water for the people and farmers of the region in the coming years and that detailed plans are being made for the transfer of water from the Oman Sea.

Helmand water contract was signed between Tehran and Kabul in 1351, and Afghanistan is committed to releasing water in the Helmand River for the benefit of the Sistan plain and Lake Hamoon.
