Beirut (IP) - Lebanon's Hezbollah secretary-general says what is happening in Ukraine resembles a lesson for those who trust and rely on the US.

Iran PressMiddle East: Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah delivered a speech at the conference held on the 30th martyrdom anniversary of martyred leader of Lebanon's Hezbollah Sayyed Abbas al-Moussawi on Tuesday.

Pointing to Ukraine, Lebanon's Hezbollah secretary-general said whoever hands over his weapons to others and leans on guarantees from here and there, would later beg for weapons and arms.

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine continued for the sixth day. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said earlier that his country had been left on its own to fight Russia after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation" aimed at “demilitarization” of the Donetsk and Lugansk Republics in eastern Ukraine.

Nasrallah warned that the repercussions of the Russia-Ukraine conflict are very dangerous to the whole world.

"What is happening between Ukraine and Russia is very dangerous regardless of the situation on the ground," Nasrallah said.

His remarks came as the “double standards” of the Western media in covering the Russia-Ukraine conflict have attracted criticism worldwide.

The Russian special operation in Ukraine began on Thursday after President Vladimir Putin ordered his forces to enter Ukraine. Putin says he had no other choice than to launch the military operation to stop the Ukrainian military’s interference in two eastern republics that have broken away from Ukraine. Russia perceives NATO’s eastward expansion as a threat.

Pointing to the West’s double standards in dealing with the crisis in Ukraine, Lebanon's Hezbollah secretary-general said: "The West’s current attitudes reveal its double standards when being compared to its positions from the US wars.

"Western countries are doing everything against Russia except the direct confrontation," he added.

"The US is responsible for what is happening in Ukraine, and it agitated this direction. The US, the ’Great Satan’,  is responsible for the ongoing tragedy and dangers," Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah noted.

He further raised the question of how did the world behave when America invaded Afghanistan, and how is it behaving now, as Russia started its military operation in Ukraine?

"The US stole 3 and a half-billion dollars from the Afghan people’s money amid a global silence," Nasrallah said.

"The world today respects only the strong and is silent in the face of the US crimes," he noted.
