Tehran (IP) - The UN Secretary-General called the Russian operation in Ukraine “against the UN Charter” and called for the return of Russian troops to their country.

Iran PressEurope: Russia has launched a military operation in Ukraine. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin says he had no other choice than to launch the military operation to stop the Ukrainian military’s interference in two eastern republics that have broken away from Ukraine. Russia perceives NATO’s eastward expansion as a threat.

“The use of force by one country against another is wrong, against the UN Charter, and unacceptable,” United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres tweeted on Thursday.

“I repeat my appeal to President Putin: Stop the military operation in Ukraine,” he added. “Bring the troops back to Russia.”

Also, on Wednesday, Guterres said after an emergency meeting of the Security Council on Ukraine that the consequences of a war would be devastating for Ukraine and far-reaching for the global economy.
