Iran Press/ Asia: Aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces’ military and transport aviation are sending the Airborne forces’ military units to Kazakhstan as part of the Collective Security Treaty Organization’s peacekeeping forces, the CSTO Secretariat told reporters on Thursday.
“Russia’s military units of the Airborne forces have joined the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces. Currently, the aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces’ military and transport aviation are sending Russian units of the peacekeeping contingent to the Republic of Kazakhstan,” the statement said.
According to the Secretariat, the advanced units have started fulfilling the assigned tasks.
Earlier, the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the current chairman of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, has announced that the organization will send peacekeepers to Kazakhstan.
Pashinyan said in a statement posted on the Kremlin website on Thursday morning that the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) had decided to send peacekeepers to Kazakhstan to help restore order in the country.
Protesters in Almaty, Kazakhstan’s largest city, stormed the president’s residence on Wednesday, setting it on fire. Eight Kazakh security forces were also killed in clashes Wednesday.
The Kazakh government declared a state of emergency Wednesday amid widespread protests across Kazakhstan.
