Iraq (IP) - The feature film “A Hero,” directed by the famous Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, will get a screening in the 8th round of Iraqi Kurdistan's Duhok International Film Festival.

Iran PressMiddle East: “A Hero” is directed by Asghar Farhadi, two-time Oscar winner in the foreign language films category, winner of the Golden Bear in Berlinale, as well as the Grand Prix in Cannes, and produced by Alexandre Mallet-Guy, in its latest premiere after screenings in prestigious world festivals, will be shown in the “World Vision” section of the 8th round of Duhok International Film Festival in Iraqi Kurdistan. 

Based in Iraq, Duhok International Film Festival is a trusted member of the Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Australia known as Asian Oscars, introducing global films in this cinematic event.

Jury members of “World Cinema” competition category in this festival will grant a statue, a plaque, and Yılmaz Güney’s $10,000 award to best feature film, $5000 to best director, $5000 to the best international short film, $5000 to new talent, jury’s special $1500 award to best short and the French Goethe Institute’s $5000 award to best international documentary.

Duhok International Film Festival, presided by Ameer Ali Mohammed Tahir, with artistic management by Shawkat Amin Korki, and in memoriam of Yılmaz Güney, the 1982 Palme d’Or winner in Cannes, is in an effort to bridge the gap between Kurdish directors and those from the rest of the world, facilitating cultural exchanges among the nations all around the world.

The 8th edition of this festival opened on 15 November 2021 with a red carpet ceremony along with a screening of Shawkat Amin Korki’s “The Exam” in the congregation hall of Duhok University. It will showcase 93 other films in feature format, short, or documentary, in competition or out of competition categories. 

“World Cinema” competition category includes nine feature films, five documentaries, and nine shorts; “Kurdish Cinema” competition category contains six features films, six documentaries, and 12 shorts; “World Vision” includes eight feature films, three documentaries, and seven shorts; “Kurdish Cinema Panorama” category contains 17 shorts; “Special Screening of Afghan Cinema” with eight feature films; “Special Screening of Kurdish Cinema” with two feature films. Duhok festival will close on 22 November 2021 after granting the awards.
