The Belarusian embassy in Belgium said in a statement on Wednesday that unidentified assailants attacked the embassy in Brussels and set it on fire.

Iran PressEurope: Following the attack, the Belarusian embassy temporarily suspended their consular duties.

The Belgian government has not yet commented on the attack.

The attack comes amid tensions between Minsk and Europe over the refugee crisis on the Belarus-Poland border.

Thousands of refugees are currently displaced on the Belarusian-Polish border.

These asylum seekers live in the cold and in the forests of the region without any facilities; they can neither return to Belarus nor enter Europe.

In recent days, Polish border guards have repeatedly fired tear gas at refugees trying to cross the border and used water cannons to disperse them.

The European Union also supports Poland in dealing with refugees. 219
