Iran, Syria ink MoU on pilgrimage journeys

Damascus(IP)-The Islamic Republic of Iran and Syria signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday to organize pilgrimage journeys.

Iran PressMiddle East: According to the memorandum of understanding, in the first phase, 100,000 pilgrims from Iran are scheduled to travel to Syria.

Ali Reza Rashidian, head of the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization of Iran, on the sidelines of the signing ceremony of this memorandum of understanding, called for special attention from the Syrian side in providing security and observing health protocols related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Syrian Minister of Tourism Mohammed Rami Radwan Martini, also said: "We want to establish the process of caravan arrival as soon as possible, but due to the conditions of the corona and the need to observe health protocols, it was agreed to start the arrival of pilgrimage caravans as soon as possible."

He added that the Syrian Ministry of Tourism will encourage tourism offices in the country to plan to send tourists to Iran in the near future and these trips, in addition to the pilgrimage aspect, will have a recreational aspect of tourism for families as well.
