What is Iranian traditional medicine?
Iranian traditional medicine is one of the most ancient forms of traditional medicine. It is grounded in the concept of four senses of humor: Phlegm (Balgham), blood (Dam), yellow bile (Safra’), and black bile (Sauda’). The concept of four senses of humor is based on the teachings of Muhammad ibn Zakariya al-Razi and Abu Ali Sina into an elaborate medical system.
Globally, this medicine reached its peak in Iran, concurrent with polymaths such as Ibn Sina, Muhammad ibn Zakariya al-Razi, and Zayn al-Din Sayyed Isma’il ibn Husayn Gorgani. Ancient Iranian Medicine, the basic knowledge of four senses of humor as a healing system, was developed by Ibn Sina in his medical encyclopedia 'The Canon of Medicine'.
Iranian traditional medicine strongly focuses on prioritizing health maintenance and disease prevention over treatment.
Traditional medicine must be revived
Speaking at the ceremony on Tuesday, Iran’s Health Minister Bahram Einollahi said: “Iranian medicine is a precious heritage that has been forgotten for years and the revival of Iranian medicine is one of the important issues that should be considered.”
“The Ministry of Health will support the scientific development of Iranian medicine,” he said, noting that scientific growth with solid standards and documentation can prevent unscientific methods in society.
“Using Iranian medicine, we can help people’s health, and the good thing about Iranian medicine is that it values prevention more,” he concluded.
