In a speech on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement, the Deputy Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations called for an immediate end to unilateral sanctions against countries.

Iran PressAmerica: Zahra Ershadi stated in the Sixth Committee of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday evening that the Non-Aligned Movement calls on countries that have imposed unilateral sanctions to end them immediately.

The Iranian diplomat expressed concern over the enforcement of laws and other forms of economic coercion against developing countries, emphasizing that Unilateral sanctions violate the UN Charter and undermine international and WTO rules.

The Deputy Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations also expressed concern about the United Nations Security Council's continued encroachment on the duties and powers of the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council, adding that the Non-Aligned Movement reiterates that the reform of the United Nations must be carried out in accordance with the principles and procedures set out in the Charter of the United Nations.

Ershadi went on to say that the sanctions imposed by UN Security Council continue to raise serious concerns among NAM member states, noting that the Non-Aligned Movement believes that imposing any sanctions should be considered as a last resort.

In the end, the Iranian diplomat to the United Nations also reaffirmed the Non-Aligned Movement's commitment to supporting all efforts to resolve disputes peacefully in accordance with the provisions of international law and the Charter of the United Nations. 219
