The Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations on Tuesday called on the Security Council to urge the Israeli regime to immediately end its aggression against Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

At the Security Council meeting, Majid Takht-Ravanchi stressed that Israel's encroachment on Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity is a clear violation of international law. Iranian diplomat stated that the hostile actions of the Zionist regime threaten regional and international peace and security.

Takht-Ravanchi also stressed the need to continue the fight against terrorist groups in Syria and said: "The fight against all terrorist groups must continue unabated because their presence and criminal activities threaten the security and territorial integrity of Syria, as well as the peace and security of the region."

The Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations also rejected separatist activities as well as illegitimate initiatives of self-governance in Syria and condemned any attempt to support them.

The reconstruction of Syria and the return of refugees and displaced people to this country must continue in parallel,"  Takht-Ravanchi emphasized.

He added that Iran considers it necessary to recall the provisions of Resolution 2585, according to which the Security Council calls on all member states to take practical steps to address the urgent needs of the Syrian people.

Takht-Ravanchi also reiterated Iran's support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Syria and the constructive engagement of the Syrian government in facilitating the work of the Constitutional Committee, adding that this committee must continue its work without any external interference or pressure.

Majid Takht-Ravanchi concluded by reiterating that unilateral sanctions against Syria must be lifted and underscored the Islamic Republic of Iran's support for the Syrian people and government to restore the unity and territorial integrity of their country. 219
