Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani arrived in Kabul on Sunday evening for the first visit of a senior diplomat since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan.

Iran Press/Asia: Al-Thani is scheduled to meet with Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, head of Afghanistan's interim government, in Kabul.

Ahmadullah Mottaqi, head of the Taliban Cultural Committee, also confirmed Al-Thani's visit to Kabul.

The Qatari foreign minister had previously stressed that the Taliban must work together to fight terrorism and live up to its commitments.

Qatar, in cooperation with the United Nations and international partners, has been working for years to bring peace to Afghanistan.

Doha recently hosted a wide-ranging international conference on Afghanistan, with participants emphasizing the need to accelerate the peace process and negotiate on the Afghan side's proposals while working to build trust. 219
