Russia said Friday it summoned the US ambassador in Moscow over interference of US tech giants in parliamentary polls due later this month.

Iran PressEurope: During the meeting, the Russian side stressed that it had obtained “irrefutable evidence proving violations of Russian legislation by US digital companies” during both the preparation and conduct of the State Duma (Parliament) elections. 

The ministry said that the US ambassador John Sullivan held a meeting with Sergei Ryabkov, Russia’s deputy foreign minister.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov recently announced that Moscow had received intelligence that the West was seeking to question the results of the Russian Duma elections.

Duma, local councils and governors' elections will be held from 17 to 19 September 2021.

Tensions between Russia and the United States have risen sharply in recent months over various issues, including the crisis in eastern Ukraine and recent US sanctions against Moscow. 219
