Tehran (IP)- The former champion of the strongest men's competitions in Iran, after a driving accident and turning to the Paralympics, is today the golden medalist of Iranian sports.

Iran PressIran news: Hamed Amiri, the Iranian para-track and field champion and a member of the Iranian squad in the Paralympic Games, who won the gold medal in javelin throwing, has an adventurous past and before the driving accident and disability, was one of the contesters in the strongest men's competition in Iran.

I said goodbye to sports 2.5 months ago

"I had won the silver medal at the Rio Paralympics and I had several world gold medals in my record and I was looking for the Paralympic gold medal during this period, but something happened a few months before the competition that changed everything," Amiri said.

"I have been in the camp for three years and I used to go home once every 6 months. Unfortunately, in the last camp in Lahijan, my arm was torn. My condition was so bad that I said I could no longer exercise. This is for 2.5 months ago," he added.

"During the past 2.5 months, I was just looking for treatment and I did not have any exercise, and my bodybuilding was only elastic band exercise. When I arrived in Tokyo, my starting ranking was very bad and I was the second person to play. My great rivals should have thrown after me."

"Arriving in Tokyo, I said that in the first throw I would put everything I had, that if my hand was torn again, it would be my best performance and people would understand me," said Amiri.

This was how he ended up breaking the Paralympics record and earning the gold medal.

Competitions of the strongest men in Iran

For 11 consecutive years, Amiri participated in the competitions of the strongest men in Iran and had high hopes and aspirations. In his words, he always spoke about his aspiration beyond winning the championship in Iran and shining in the world tournaments.

He participated in the competitions for 11 consecutive years, and each time, he participated in the competitions with more motivation, energy, and practice, but destiny orchestrated something different for him. A car accident and a change in the course of his professional and sports life due to this tragic event eventually turned out to be magnificent for him.

The story of the accident and the wheelchair

The tragic accident affected Hamed's life. A few years ago, in an interview, he talked about the details of that incident and described it as follows: "There were 4 days left until the flight. I was preparing for the tournament in Finland. I was the only Iranian who was invited to these competitions and I had to attend with readiness. To practice, I used to travel 90 km from Khorramabad to Boroujerd every day and practice there. The training conditions there were better. In December of 2011, when I was returning from training, I was driving on a narrow road to Khorramabad when suddenly a car that had overtaken me illegally approached me from the front and I had to drive the car to the dirt road. The car turned left and rolled over 8 times. The car stopped after being dragged a few meters on the ground."

"After 10 minutes, I realized that my legs no longer felt. Despite all the hardships, I found my mobile phone and called my family. I could not speak but I told them I had an accident on the road but I do not know exactly where and in which area I am. After that, I called the emergency services and asked for help. An hour later, the ambulance and my family came to help and took me to the Khorramabad Hospital."

"Due to my condition, I was taken to the operating room and operated on," he said. "Until 9 months after this incident, I did not know what had happened to me. Doctors and people around me promised that I would get well soon and could walk next month, but this was not true."

Return to sports and championships

Today, Hamed Amiri is the golden man of Iranian sports. He did not lose his temper in the most difficult conditions, and from the very beginning of his return home, he resumed sports and turned to javelin throwing. He explains that the person who offered him to turn to sports for veterans and the disabled repeated this request three times until Hamed agreed to enter the field. The efforts, practice, and perseverance of this hero have now placed him in the first place in the world in his field after a few years, and it is the pride of Iran and Iranians.
