Russia's RIA Novosti news agency quoted a Taliban official as saying on Tuesday night that the new Afghan government, which is set to form soon, has appointed the foreign, defense and interior ministers.

Iran press/Asia: Taliban has appointed Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar as foreign minister, Mullah Yaqub Akhund, the son of the Taliban founder, as defense minister, and Khalifa Haqqani, the son of Jalaluddin Haqqani, one of the leaders, RIA Novosti quoted the source.

According to the source; special consultations on the formation of the cabinet are over and the results will be announced soon.

Earlier, a senior Taliban member told the media that the group would announce the formation of a new government in Afghanistan on September 3 (Friday, September 12).

The Taliban have also included Afghanistan’s former President Hamid Karzai and former peace negotiator Abdullah Abdullah in a 12-member council that would govern Afghanistan during the transition period, according to a source.

The latest development comes as Afghanistan is reeling from two terrorist explosions outside the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul on Thursday, which claimed over 100 lives, including those of 13 US military personnel.

Many Afghan officials and people attribute the current situation in Afghanistan to the failed US policies. 219
