Tehran (IP) - Although the terrorist attacks near Kabul Airport on Thursday evening surprised many in political circles around the world, it seems that Westerners were not too surprised.

Iran Presscommentary: The terrorist blasts killed more than 100 people and injured 150 others. Although the ISIS terrorist group claimed responsibility, analysts believe that the motives behind the terrorist attacks should not be ignored.

Some believe that the attacks are complicating the security situation in Afghanistan for the Taliban and the United States.

Former members of the Taliban and opponents of dialogue with the United States, the Afghan government's security and intelligence forces, and opponents of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan are those that could be behind the attacks.

According to Mohammad Hassan Jafari, a political expert, more than 20 terrorist groups are active in the country, and no one will be safe from them if a civil war breaks out.

In addition to them, there are other views on the aims of the Kabul attacks. Some say the deadly bombing dispersed thousands of people who had gathered to leave Afghanistan, and others believe the blasts will once again trigger a continued US presence in Afghanistan.

Texas Rep and member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Michael McCaul, said the US withdrawal from Afghanistan had long-term consequences for its position, indicating that the country had no information about the situation outside Kabul airport.

A look at the remarks made by Gen McMackenzie, the commander of US Central Command (Centcom), that the country is ready to take action against the perpetrators of the two Kabul bombings could indicate the return of the US military to the operations in Afghanistan.

An important point in Mackenzie's remarks about the Kabul attacks is his reference to the possibility of sharing security information with the Taliban, which means that Washington seeks to legitimize the group's presence in Kabul and recognize them as Afghanistan's only security provider.

In any case, the terrorist attacks in Kabul, on the one hand, dispersed those who had gathered to flee Afghanistan, and on the other hand, provided a good opportunity and excuse for the possible continuation of the US presence in Afghanistan.

At the same time, the incident could lead to the Taliban tightening security measures in Afghanistan to the point where forming an inclusive government is forgotten.
