Thousands of people of Tehran, dressed in black, gathered in Eram Park on Wednesday night in a mourning ceremony on the eve of the Ashura.

Iran PressIran news: This year, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Muharram mourning ceremonies in all Iranian cities and provinces are held in the open air, observing strict corona protocols, social distancing, and wearing a mask.

Ashura is the 10th day of Muharram, when Imam Hussein [AS], a grandson of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad [PBUH], and his 72 companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala, in southern Iraq, in 680 AD after fighting courageously for justice against the much larger army of the Umayyad caliph, Yazid I.
