Tehran (IP)- A National Security Commission member in Iran's parliament said that the United States claims it is promoting democracy in the world, but it has violated human rights and democracy by blocking free media.

Iran PressIran News: The US Justice Department said on Tuesday it seized 36 Iranian-linked websites.

The department said in a statement that today, pursuant to court orders, the United States seized 33 websites used by the Islamic Radio and Television Union (IRTVU) and three websites operated by Kata’ib Hizballah (KH), "in violation of US sanctions."

In an interview with Iran Press about the US' goal of blocking Iranian news websites, a member of the Iranian Parliament's National Security Commission, Shahriar Heydari, said the US was concerned about the media that publishes the realities.

He stressed that the United States opposes free media, which reflect the realities of human societies.

Heydari added that the US' act shows that the free media has effectively spread the facts, especially the news of the oppressed countries.

He added that the blocked media should be proud because the US' act shows that they are on the right track.

The websites seized included the Press TV website, belonging to the Iranian government's main English-language satellite television channel, and the Al Alam website, its Arabic-language equivalent.

Both came back online using Iranian domain addresses Alalam.ir and Presstv.ir.
