Zarif meet Afghan President Ashraf Ghani

Dushanbe (IP) - Iran's Foreign Minister discussed the peace process in Afghanistan, regional and bilateral relations with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and in another meeting with Shah Mahmood Qureshi, his Pakistani counterpart reviewed bilateral trade ties and regional developments with a special focus on the Afghan issue.

Iran Press/Asia: Iran's Foreign Minister, who is attending the Heart of Asia Conference in Tajikistan, discussed the peace process in Afghanistan, regional issues, and bilateral relations with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

In the meeting held on Tuesday, the President of Afghanistan, appreciating the positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran on developments in Afghanistan, announced his country's readiness to expand relations in all areas and to hold a joint commission for economic cooperation between the two countries.

The future of peace in Afghanistan and Iran's position in helping establish peace and stability in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan were among other topics discussed during the meeting.

Also in the same day, Iran's Zarif in a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi reviewed bilateral trade ties and regional developments with a special focus on the Afghan issue.

Qureshi in his part underscored the need to tap the trade and economic potential between Pakistan and Iran and he expressed the hope that the early establishment of the Iran-Pakistan border market would benefit both countries equally.

In the regional issues, both sides agreed that peace in Afghanistan is a prerequisite for the overall development in the region.

During the meeting, various issues of mutual interest were discussed, including the promotion of bilateral cooperation in various fields and the overall law and order situation in the region.

Pakistan's foreign minister said that both countries have a lot of opportunities regarding the promotion of economic and trade cooperation that needs to be harnessed.

Qureshi also thanked the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif for extending the continuous support to Pakistan's stance regarding the Kashmir dispute at the international forums.
