Iran warns over West's abuse of Human Right Council

Geneva (IP) - Iran's permanent representative at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva reacted to the UN Human Rights Council's anti-Iranian resolution and warned over the West's abuse of it.

Iran PressEurope: Esmail Baqaei Hamaneh said the founders of the resolution and its supporters could not claim to improve the Iranian people's human rights.

"Their hypocritical claim was in sheer contradiction with the behaviors and actions they take against the Iranian nation," Baqaei Hamaneh said, stressing the responsible countries' actions to protect the integrity and credit of the Human Rights Council.

Pointing to the appointment of the special rapporteur for Iran, Baqaei Hamaneh said that it was imposed on the council by a few countries having a long history of acting against Iran.

Referring to the British Foreign Minister Dominic Rob's comments that human rights were of no Importance for the UK in its trade ties with countries, the Iranian envoy considered a hypocritical one.

According to him, some countries, such as Britain and the United States, have resorted to political confrontation with their opponents with widespread human rights abuses.

At the 46the meeting of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, a resolution was proposed by the United Kingdom and several other European countries to extend the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, which was adopted by a politically-oriented vote of less than half of the member states.
