Nowruz; message of rejecting violence, enmity, unilateralism

New York (IP) - Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations said Nowruz was a message of rejecting violence, enmity and unilateralism.

Iran PressAmerica: Attending a virtual meeting held in the UN headquarters celebrating Nowruz, Majid Takht Ravanchi said Nowruz was an ancient and rooted culture, bringing about hope and felicity. 

Takht Ravanchi added: "Nowruz plays an important role in strengthening friendly relations between the region's people based on peaceful coexistence and good neighborliness by promoting human values such as peace, solidarity, empathy, and friendship."

"When extremism, violence, hostility, and unilateralism were at their highest level, the message of Nowruz was more relevant than ever," he pointed out. 

With an initiative of 12 countries, including Iran, a meeting was held on Monday to celebrate Nowruz at the UN headquarters.

Other 11 countries attended the event as well. 

In the meeting chaired by Iran's envoy Majid Takht Ravanchi, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the President of the UN General Assembly Volkan Bozkir and the President of the UN Economic and Social Council Munir Akram delivered speeches.

In 2010, in a resolution adopted at the initiative of the Islamic Republic of Iran and 11 countries of Nowruz culture, the United Nations recognized March 21 of each year as the International Day of Nowruz, following the first of Persian month of Farvardin.
