Islamabad (IP) - Pakistani Finance Minister called for finding effective ways to develop trade between Tehran and Islamabad.

Iran press/Asia: Hassan Abqari, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance and CEO of the Islamic Republic of Iran Foreign Investment Company, met with Abdul Hafiz Sheikh, Minister of Finance and Revenues of Pakistan on Friday in Islamabad.

The Pakistani Ministry of Finance said in a statement: "The two sides exchanged views on issues of mutual interest and are determined to strengthen economic and trade relations in the light of historical relations, geographical proximity, cultural affinities, and economic commonalities."

"Pakistan's finance minister stressed that ways must be found to advance bilateral trade relations with Iran, and to this end, the Iran-Pakistan Investment Company can play a pivotal role in developing trade and investment between the two countries," the statement said.

Abdul Hafiz Sheikh informed Iran's Deputy Minister of Economy about the Pakistani Government of a comprehensive economic reform program aimed at achieving growth leading to exports and sustainable economic development.

Referring to the economic challenges posed by the outbreak of the COVID-19, he described some of the Pakistani government's efforts to compensate for the economic and social damage and to try to reduce the negative effects of coronavirus on deprived sections of society.
